NLP Training can make a huge difference to your life. Having developed and run NLP Practitioner courses for many years now I have seen people get some amazing results. I have also heard of some big horror stories. NLP Courses are expensive in both time and money. If you are not careful you could be making a huge investment in something that does not get you the results you want.
Imagine a course where you gain the skills to create massive results in every area of your life. If this course were possible would it not make sense to make sure you were on it? For many people this is the impact of a NLP Practitioner Course and would be for many more if they had selected the right course for them. This article is a short list of how not to go about finding your ideal course.
Not all NLP Courses are created equal. There are a huge variance of price, time and experience in the range of NLP Courses on the market. Unfortunately there are many poor courses as well as the large number of good ones out there. Before making any investment it is worth spending some time finding a course that will give you the best result.
Have no clear outcomes
Before looking for a course you will need to start with the end in mind. Find out what you want to get from the course, imagine what you will be seeing and doing with the new skills. There are many uses for NLP techniques so make sure that you will make back the value of the time effort and money you will have to put in to the course.
Understanding what you want to get from the course is extremely vital because this is what will drive your exploration to find a good course for you.
Don’t bother to check the content of the course or the experience of the NLP trainer
There is no governing body for NLP. There are a few self serving, profit making organisations that NLP Training Organisations choose to certify through and they vary slightly in terms of core content although this is not the major challenge.
The core NLP content does not vary hugely from each training provider, what does change is the emphasis, the applications and the experience of the trainer. By knowing your outcomes you have a way of automatically sorting many of the NLP Practitioner Courses that are out there.
If you are looking to be a therapist then start looking at the courses that look at the material from a therapy perspective, search for trainers that have a therapy background. If you are looking to develop your business look through the background of your trainer to find out if they have this sort of experience. If you want to develop your sales technique then ask your NLP Training Providers for reference clients that are working in sales.
Spend some time quizzing your potential trainers. Try putting their names in to Google. All the good NLP Trainers have written articles, books and have an on line presence. Speak to them if you can and get a feel for how well they build rapport with you (taking in to account they are experts at this).
Ideally when you are making this sort of investment in time, energy and money you would want to make sure that the content of the course and the quality of the trainer meet your needs.
Train with an organisation because they are close to you or are cheap
I have found some people that have taken a particular NLP Training Course because it was the first that they had found or it is close by or it is the cheapest they could find. I find this a strange attitude to what could be the most important training course they may ever undertake.
For most people the most the most significant purchase they make in their life is a house. Imagine buying a house based on it being the first that you have looked at, the closest to where you all ready live or the cheapest you could find. Location and price might be criteria you look at but I suspect if the house is not right for you then you would not buy it whatever the price or location.
Understanding what you want from the course and matching courses and trainers against those needs is the only way for you to sort out the best NLP Practitioner course for you. If you were to learn the most significant and important skills since learning to walk and talk then you might want to take the time and effort to find the one course that will truly satisfy your needs.
